About Healthy Kids Programme (Mauritius)
The Healthy Kids Global Programme (HKP) is a nutrition education programme that reflects Nestlé’s commitment to improving global nutrition through school teachers, children and their parents. It is an unbranded programme involving multi-stakeholder partnerships and is already being implemented in 84 countries.
In Mauritius, the key partners are the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research (MOEHRTESR) the Service Diocésain de l’Éducation Catholique (SEDEC) and the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE), being the implementation partner. Health Kids Programme (Mauritius) has been designed as a co-curricular programme to introduce and consolidate selected topics in the Health and Physical Education (HPE) National Curriculum Framework (Primary 2016) and Pupils’ Workbook for Grades 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Implementation of HKP in Mauritius
From Grade 2 in 33 Primary Schools in 2016, HKP has been expanded to reach out to Grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 in all the 258 Primary Schools (ALL Government Schools and Roman Catholic Aided Schools) in Mauritius.
2016 – Grade 2 level in 34 Primary Schools
2017 – Grade 2 and Grade 3 levels in 66 Primary Schools
2018 – Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4 levels in 89 Primary Schools
2019 – Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4 and Grade 5 levels in 258 Primary Schools (ALL Government Schools and Roman Catholic Aided Schools)
The development, implementation and monitoring of HKP (Mauritius) is led by a team of academics at the MIE with expertise in nutrition, physical education and curriculum development. Desk Officers nominated by the MOEHRTESR and SEDEC provide support to ensure the smooth implementation and monitoring of the programme.
